The Akwa Ibom Police Command has arrested child trafficking syndicate and a lady for allegedly purchasing a 2-month-old child for N450,000.
The suspected traffickers were paraded on Saturday, October 22, at the state police base camp in Uyo. Those paraded includes a
homeopathic doctor, Eneyo Nyang, who is accused for running the child factory, two young girls and a twenty-four year-old mother Comfort Effiong, who had sold her two-month old baby to a 51-year-old lady, Rose Edwardfor N450,000.
Introducing the suspects, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Cordelia Nwawe, expressed that the arrest of the suspects took after insight reports and duty of a combined group of the anti-kidnapping unit in a joint effort with sister units of police.
She said that Edward from Rivers State admitted to have purchased the child since she needed a baby of her own.
Admitting to the wrongdoing, the child's mom said that she sold her baby in light of the fact that there was nobody to take care of her.
"I sold the child on account of help; I don't have anyone to help me. My dad is late and my mom is wiped out and I don't have anyone to help me," Effiong said.
The Police representative cautioned parents and guardians to assume liability for the welfare of their adolescent young ladies to keep away from teenage pregnancies. She likewise asked individuals from the general population wishing to adopt to take after lawful and genuine procedures.
