The Federal Government has begged the Non-Teaching Staff of the Nigerian Universities to suspend the three months strike they set out upon since December 10 2017. 

Senator Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labor and Employment, put forth the interest in an announcement marked by Samuel Olowookere, the Director, Press in the service, on Tuesday in Abuja. 

There had been appeasing gathering with the Non-Teaching Staff of Nigerian Universities called at the occurrence of the minister. 

The Non-Teaching Staff of Nigerian Universities working under the acronym Joint Action Committee are made of the Non Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, Senior Staff Academic of Nigerian Universities and National Association of Academic Technologists.

About N360 billion ($1 billion) worth of gemstone is smuggled out of Nigeria illicitly denying the nation of the outside trade she would have inferred if the item was sent out through the legitimate export channel.

Talking amid a courtesy call, the Executive Director of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Mr. Olusegun Awolowo, the Deputy National Coordinator of the Gemstone Miners and Marketers Association of Nigeria (GEMMAN), Mrs. Jummai Oluyede, said these spillages in gemstone send out happen regardless of the way that the item contributes nothing right now to the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Mrs. Oluyede said Nigeria can gain up to N720 billion ($2 billion) at the underlying stage from the export of gemstone if the item is traded through the lawful channel.

Fire razes over 600 shops at old Bida market

A raging inferno on Thursday night razed more than 600 shops at the old market in Bida, home office of Bida Local Government Area of Niger. 

It was reported that the fire, which began at around 8.30 p.m., pulverized merchandise and other property in the old market. 

Witnesses said firemen from the Bida Fire Service and Federal Polytechnic Fire Service couldn't get to the consumed area of the market as a few shops were still on fire. 

The reason for the inferno couldn't be ascertained as at the time this report. 

Mohammad Badugu, the Chairman, Bida Local Government, disclosed that the whole market was inundated in flame.

Kwara Assembly passes bill stopping payment of pension to ex-govs, deputies

The Kwara State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed an amendment bill stopping payment of pension to previous governors, deputy governors and different officers holding political offices after their residency in office.
