A giant creepy crawly, said to be the world's biggest mosquito, will go in plain view at a gallery in southwest China one month from now.
The supersized insect was found by Chinese entomologist Zhao Li amid a field review at Qingcheng mountain in Sichuan region in August. Zhao said he had since invested energy affirming that it was the biggest
mosquito found on the planet before uncovering his discovery.
With a 5cm long body and a wing range of 11.15cm, it is 10 times longer than a normal mosquito and a third longer than is run of the mill for its species, holorusia mikado.
That species is the biggest of the mosquitoes with a normal wing range of 8cm, and was found in Japan in 1876. Zhao's example is from the Tipulidae family.
