EXPLOSION ROCKS ONDO STATE OVERNIGHT AND DESTROYED BUILDINGS

Early hours of Saturday between 12 to 1am, explosion took place in Ondo state, at Eleyowo, around owo akure highway.

The explosion which happened at about 1am destroyed buildings and split the road apart.

Senate queries appointment of new NYSC director

The Senate on Tuesday asked its Committee on Sports and Youth Development to examine if the recent appointment of another Director-General for the National Youth Service Corps by the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, was in order.

Buratai had as of late named Sani Ibrahim to replace Sule Kazaure as the NYSC manager. 

The panel investigating the issue was approached to present its report on Wednesday one week from now. 

The committee were saddled with the duty of seeing whether any law was abused in the appointment of the new NYSC director. 

The decision to investigate the issue depended on a point of request raised by Senator Dino Melaye. 

He said, “The NYSC Act, Section 5, says there shall be a service to be headed by a person called the Director-General, to be appointed by the President.

“Surprisingly, the Chief of Army Staff removed the Director-General through a signal and, through another signal, appointed another one.

"The law doesn't present the intensity of delegating NYSC DG on anyone, however the President. The last DG and all other past DGs were delegated by sitting Presidents. 

"On the off chance that we permit this, the declaration of the Senate President can emerge out of the Federal Road Safety and substitution may originate from a similar establishment."

Police arrest Small Doctor for unlawful possession of firearms.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Adekunle Temitope, prevalently known as Small Doctor, for unlawful possession of firearms and for purportedly compromising to shoot a cop.
