The Enugu State Police Command on Monday said it has rescued Pa Michael Obi, the dad of Super Eagles Captain, Mikel Obi, from kidnappers.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, said this in an announcement, including that Pa Obi and his driver, John Ishaya, were snatched on Makurdi-Enugu Road on June 29.
Mikel's dad, as per the police, was en route from Jos, Plateau State, in a dim shading Toyota Prado Sports Utility Vehicle with number plate, MUS 604CG, when he was seized.
The kidnappers were said to have requested N10m as payoff from Obi's family.
The representative said around 2pm on Monday, agents of the Ninth Mile Division of the order rescued Pa Obi and his driver in a backwoods in the Udi region of Enugu.
Amaraizu said the save was gone before by a firearm fight between the police and the ruffians, who got away in the wake of being overwhelmed by the security operators.
Amaraizu stated, "The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, through its agents protected Pa Michael Obi
and his driver, one Ishaya John, safe in Egede Udi timberland on Monday, July 2, 2018, around 2.30pm along old Egede-Affa Road, Enugu.
"They were rescued hale and hearty and PA Michael Obi and the driver have been brought together with their families.
"Pa Obi and his driver were snatched along Markurdi-Enugu Road on his way from Jos and taken to a thick woods.
"The abductors called to request a payoff of N10m before policemen, following up on knowledge data, swooped on them, after which a firearm duel resulted which constrained the gangsters to relinquish their casualties inside the timberland and fled."
The police representative included that Pa Obi recognized the police for the save.
"He said thanks to the Commissioner of Police, Danmallam Mohammed, and the agents, saying he is content with the agents' execution," the announcement read.
The PPRO included that a group of specialists from the police therapeutic unit had directed restorative keeps an eye on Pa Obi affirmed that he was robust and generous.
The charge encouraged individuals from the general population, especially clinic specialists, to keep an eye out for anybody with slug wounds, taking note of that such individual could be a piece of the escaping capture posse that kidnapped Pa Obi and his driver.
This would be the second time that Pa Obi was abducted. He was first kidnapped in August 2011.
