Tale of a Nigerian Youth...
"The Journey aka trekking series"
Like a typical Tuesday, She woke up bright and early. It was special simply because She would be going to the hospital to pick up her new glasses (weird right ?).
She just loved getting new pair of glasses.
All dressed and set, She got to the bus stop and was patiently waiting for a bus to
Jibowu, that means She could board a bus going towards sabo/yaba and will alight at Jibowu.
While chilling for a bus along with other human beings, a bus came calling Ipori/costain, which would not likely take her route but will get close enough. To her bewilderement the same conductor strangely called Yaba and She asked him "Jibowu nkor", the bus conductor said "oya wole". She repeated "Jibowu ni mòn lo" and he said "mò ti gbO" (you cannot trust Lagos bus conductors, they can go anywhere inasmuch they will get their money from you)
Some minute into the journey (after payment), She was glued to her phone, trying to chat up her friend Adebabe Metonde, who she will later meet up.
Lo and behold, her bus took an unexpected route, heading towards a bridge that was not meant to be.
In this kind of situation, she should have just alighted from next bus stop which is a stone throw from Jibowu bus stop, but trust this " Soft girl" She didn't want wahala or cause confusion in the bus. So She just sat put thinking in her mind "I will drop at the next bus stop".
The bus approached the next bus stop and the not-so-caring conductor screamed "Ojuelegba wa ooo" with all of the bitterness in him-and yes! You guessed right, She didn't alight simply because nobody did.
Jeez at that point She knew was not familiar with the area. Then the bus approached the next bus stop ( Barracks bus stop) and yea She alighted because a lady did.
She looked around, went a few steps backwards just for the sake of walking and it dawned on her that she is stranded in a strange place.
Because she could not see any one around, She called her friend Olarewaju Omomeji, who simply laughed and said with confidence "madam cross the road and enter Ikeja bus, Jibowu is along". Then she asked if it is a trekable distanc and he exclaimed "don't try it, I will just call your dad, that you are planning to get missing".
She crossed and got confused on the bus to enter, so she walked a few distances and found herself at Mushin. She thought the distance she could cover was not much, Then she knew she was officially lost.
She called another friend Temidayo Musa, and yes, he laughed his life out. He told her to ask around (mehn she was just so lost).
She swallowed her pride and called Lanre back who screamed and just said get another bus. So She did what Musa suggested "asked around" and She asked a guy who replied "Jibowu dey behind you" (lol)
She laughed at herself real hard, But four things came into her mind; Focus, Fear Disobedience and Trust.
Many at times as Christians we loose focus on Jesus and get occupied with other things, then when we realise our mistakes, fear overtakes us and we feel we are too deep to turn back, Then God comes Himself and yes we say we can do it ourselves and we let guilt rob us of our inheritance.
Why not trust God and retrace your steps.
God cares....
