The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, has dissolved the leading body of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission, AKISIEC.
Mr. Emmanuel, who reported the disintegration of the board in a letter to the State House of Assembly, likewise requested that the House support his new candidates for the board.
The governor in this manner assigned Aniedi Ikoiwak as the new chairman of the commission, as indicated by his letter read out Tuesday in the House by the Speaker, Onofiok Luke.
Other nominees are Patrick Ifon, Mathew Udo, Usoro Ukpanah, Sunday Aniefiok, E. E. Umoh, and Effiong Umanah.
The opposition All Progressive Congress, APC, had prior rejected the authority of the electoral commission by Gloria Ukpong and proceeded to declare that it wouldn't take
an interest in the local government council election in the state. The election is planned for November 11.
The APC had said that the commission did not have the validity to lead a free and fare election in view of the precursor of Mrs. Ukpong in the two past decisions she led.
It likewise asserted that Mrs. Ukpong had exceeded in office, past the period endorsed by the law setting up AKISIEC.
The party later made a U-turn and said it would take an interest in the decision, yet that it would court to challenge the legitimateness of Mrs. Ukpong's constant remain in office.
The APC representative in the state, Bassey Eyo, said he was satisfied with what happened.
