“Rate at which girls are spending time on social network is worrisome” – Sultan


The Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar, has expressed worry at a development where social media are occupying the attention of students in the nation. 

Mr. Abubakar communicated the inclination in Sokoto on Sunday at the closing ceremony of the sixth National Edition of the Quranic Recitation Competition. 

The Sultan stated: "There is an aggravating development where the attention of students is being occupied from their examinations. 

"This is using different social media like Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, 2Go and Instagram, among others,'' he said 

The traditional ruler asked youth, especially young ladies, to quit investing excessively
energy in social media to the detriment of different engagements that would add more esteems to their life.

“The rate at which girls are spending time on social network is worrisome and this poses imminent danger to our society.

“Girls are the nerve centre of our moral and societal development and if they derail, the whole society will be in danger because they are our mothers and care givers.”

Mr. Abubakar prompted guardians to guarantee that their girls invest more energy in significant things, such as presenting the Holy Qur'an. 

"Doing as such will improve them mothers and parental figures''. 

The ruler likewise asked Muslims to stop from doing things equipped for discoloring the picture of their religion. 

The Sultan, who saluted the winnrs of the competition, gave N10,000 to each of the 89 members, while the overall winner, Husna Nura from Katsina State, got N100,000.

In his comments, Governor Aminu Tambuwal said that the opposition would urge young ladies to remember the entire sixty sections of the Holy Qur'an.
