Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Friday coordinated prompt planting of 500,000 trees in 78 areas to secure the earth and promote healthy living.
Mr. Ambode, represented by his deputy, Idiat Adebule, gave the mandate in Lagos at the 2017 Tree Planting Campaign organized by the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency.
The campaign had the subject: "Think Green, Plant Trees, Live Green''.
The governor said that 6.8 million trees had been planted since the state government began the campaign in 2007.
"To check the current year's Tree Planting Day, we are including another 500,000 trees, which will be planted over the state.
"We should recollect that trees are fundamental to human presence, as they
give nourishment, protect, solution for all ill health and source of living," he said.
Mr. Ambode added that trees controlled tempest, noise pollution, water overflows and abandon infringement.
"On the off chance that we should keep on living healthy, planting of trees will be a technique that must be grasped by all.
"This is on the grounds that planting of trees is one of the least expensive and most straightforward approaches to protect mother earth and battle the assaulting impact of environmental change.
"I ask inhabitants and associations to help this campaign so that, together, we can alleviate the impacts of environmental change and make our urban areas and groups more beneficial," he said.
Mr. Ambode said that 570 recently trained youths had been engaged to kick off the greening program at the 57council regions of the state.
Prior, Samuel Adejare, the state Commissioner for the Environment, said that Lagos lost its profile differences to formative exercises and urbanization.
Mr. Adejare said that wetland woodland saves had devalued because of developing populace and city extension, while felling of trees and demolition of the environment flourished for socoeconomic reasons.
"This is the reason the state government is approaching all to grasp tree planting, particularly amid point of landmark occasions, for example, birthday celebrations, entombment and naming," he said.

The activity was organized out by the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency, LASPARK.
Mr. Adejare, spoken to by the Head, Public Affairs Unit, LASPARK, Tejumade Olufemi, repeated that it was an offense to cut trees without authorization in the state.
He said that a significant number of people had been captured for cutting trees without authorization, and the wrongdoers had similarly been made a request to replant trees as their discipline.
