Herders change Abuja stadium into grazing field

Fulani herders have changed the National Stadium, Abuja, into a fertile land for dairy cattle field as weeds overtake the bundle B area of the $360m office.

Crisp and dried cow dung waste could be seen on the black-top inside the perplexing showing that the creatures consistently eat on the grasses at the stadium.

The security authorities keeping an eye on the door blamed the games service for the disintegration in the state of the stadium – and for giving the herders unhindered access to the stadium, which facilitated the 2003 All Africa Games won by Nigeria.

One of the security men, said some of the service authorities are upbeat that herders have changed the bustling stadium into a grazing field.

The source stated, "The herders come into the stadium with their cows practically
consistently. They get through the crumbled segment of the fence and we can't stop them since we are not equipped.

"The administration know about the circumstance, however they have declined to make a move, which means they are OK with it."

Another watch depicted the nearness of the herders and their steers at the stadium as "a shame", yet noticed that the security unit was powerless to stop them.

He stated, "We can't stop them since we are not equipped, and they (sports service) have declined to draw in policemen to beef up the security around the stadium.

"Look at weeds everywhere on the premises and they have declined to connect with somebody to clear the weeds. Perhaps the administration is attempting to spare cash by enabling the animals to graze on weeds."

In the mean time, the velodrome (a field for cycling) at the stadium complex has been safely guarded since 2015, after a huge number of gas stoves purchased in front of the general races that year were put away in it by the Goodluck Jonathan organization.
