The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit, Zone B, has arrested a truck-heap of rice disguised in animal dung by smugglers in Katsina State.
Mr Shehu Usman, the Controller accountable for the zone, made the exposure at a news conference on Tuesday in Katsina.
He said that the vehicle was arrested on Sunday by traditions work force, including that the smugglers covered the packs of rice in dung to mislead the agents.
He said that dealers have formulated numerous approaches to consummate their acts.
"The legislature is not joking on rice production in the nation; there is the
program on grapple borrowers aim at enhancing local rice production in Nigeria.
"Local rice is superior to anything the smuggled one, we will do our best to see that such government plans succeed.
"We are serious about keeping these individuals from smuggling rice into the nation.
"We are watchful and won't yield in our endeavors until the point that we radically diminish carrying of such things into the nation,'' he said.
He said that agents as of late arrested more than 10 distinct vehicles which amuggled rice, and asked people in general to furnish them with important data to abridge carrying in the nation.
