Customs seizes N108m imported poultry products

The Area Comptroller of Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone C Owerri, Mohammed Garba, has said that the Unit, on October 31, caught a DAF Truck stacked with 11,315 containers of imported solidified poultry products with Duty Paid Value of N108,624,000.00.

This was said to be scarcely two weeks after he expected office as the new Comptroller
of NCS, FOU, Zone C.

The vehicle with registration number LND 641 XM was seized on the Benin hub on the said day and two suspects captured. The suspects are presently helping Customs with the investigation.

Garba said the truck had conveyed the products by the curiosity just known as "false bottom method concealment", which he said was "criminally formed by hardcore smuggle to beat the authorities."

He said, "The seized truck was astutely parceled with wood, darted and hitched as a methodology to abstain from being recognized by the Customs authorities".

He said that the internal layer of the divided truck was stockpiled with the stash products while the external layer of the allotments was deliberately orchestrated to trick the officers.

Garba, who condemned the proceeded with liberality in sneaking by a few Nigerians in spite of the official authorizations, cautioned that the Customs would dependably beat them to their diversion, cautioning that poultry items remain prohibited.
