The Minister of Labor and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige has spoke to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to repeal its choice to set out on a nationwide warning strike from Wednesday.
The Minister said in a statement on Tuesday night that the union ought to give the
Buhari administration a chance to talk about all battling issues emerging from the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) it came to with the past administration.
The Minister however said that "the cases of nationwide consultation by ASUU can't be valid as the Ministry of Labor and Employment which is the central conciliator of industrial relations dispute is yet to get an immediate appeal from ASUU against the Federal Government who is the jurisdictional employer".
The announcement signed by the Deputy Director Press, Federal Ministry of Labor and Employment, Samuel Olowokere stressed the requirement for legitimate re-transaction of the Collective Bargaining Agreement which ASUU came to with the past administration through a reasonable channel of social dialogue, beginning with its immediate employer, the Ministry of Education, and the Labor Ministry.
It clarified that in perspective of the overall conditions, the issuance of warning strike by ASUU was unlawful as the body was yet to deplete the contention determination instruments obviously mapped out in the work laws.
The Minister in this manner spoke to ASUU to give the present administration the chance to completely address its grievances which originated from the inactions of the past administration.
