The British Government on Tuesday said it has put aside £5m to bolster the battle against human trafficking in Nigeria.
The British Deputy High Commissioner in Nigeria, Laure Beaufiks, made this known in Benin amid her visit to the Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, Justin Okonoboh.
"My Prime Minister, Theresa May, has put aside £5m to bolster the battle against present day slavery in Nigeria."
Beaufiks said that Britain would cooperate with the state government to handle the danger of human trafficking in the nation, specific in Edo.
The British agent said she was in Edo to
identify business opportunities and investigate methods for handling the threat of human trafficking.
Reacting, the Deputy Speaker, Mrs Elizabeth Ativie, who spoke to the Speaker, said thanks to the British government for the kind gesture.
"I need to thank you for taking part in the Edo project. The governor, Godwin Obaseki, has been keen on the financial advancement of the state outside oil.
"That is the reason numerous different nations are going to the state to invest," she said.
As per her, the Criminal Code Amendment Law 2000 was passed by the state assembly to guarantee fast arraignment of offenders.
"This is to show how genuine and submitted our legislature is towards guaranteeing complete destruction of human trafficking in the state," she included.
Ativie said that the state government was focused on making more occupations for its teeming youths to handle the threat of human trafficking.
