Onwuegbuzie Stanley-Samuel, a NYSC member deployed to Cross River, has died of Lassa fever sickness at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).
Official for Health, Dr Inyang Asibong, told newsmen on Friday in Calabar, that the deceased was first conceded at the General Hospital, Obubra, where he was treated with for cerebral malaria fever for one week.
"The incident begun around two weeks back in Obubra and we as a whole realize that the incubation time of Lassa fever is 3-21 days.
"The deceased is an indigene of Delta State. The last time he ventured out to his home in
Lagos State was amid the Christmas season in December 2016 and returned to Cross River in January 2017.
"The deceased was living in the corps individuals' cabin in Obubra and since he returned January, he has not left that community.
"Lamentably, we lost him yesterday. Tragically, the corps member gotten the infection in Cross River," she said.
Igbu said that the organization was working intimately with the state Ministry of Health to check additionally spread of the sickness in the state.
Dr Ngim Ogbu, Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, UCTH, said that the corps member's passing was the second recorded instance of death as a result of Lassa fever in the doctor's hospital.
