A Federal University has been named after the late ex-Vice President of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme.
The Federal Government renamed the Federal University Ndufu Alike, in Ebonyi State, to Alex Ekwueme Federal University, to respect the memory of the late senior statesman.
The Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo uncovered the renaming today, Friday, amid the memorial service of the late symbol.
Depicting Ekwueme as an uncommon jewel, Osinbajo said the late pioneer, amid his lifetime, maintained the standards of giving up of one's own priorities and administration to humankind.
The VP stated: "We celebrate Alex Ekwueme because he practiced the eternal principles that set men and women apart from their peers, whether they are poor or rich, famous or unknown; the principles of
personal sacrifice for others, service to those who cannot offer a reward, the courage of one’s convictions, bravery in the face of terror ".
The memorial service of the Ekwueme was held in the place where he grew up in Oko, Anambra State.
Exhibit at the memorial service were late Ekwueme's family and companions, and other high positioning government authorities, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and his significant other, Mrs Patience and previous Vice President Namadi Sambo.
State governors in participation incorporate Willie Obiano (Anambra), Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos) among others.
