Former Union bank Manager gets 19 years in jail for N27 million Fraud


The Kaduna division of the court of Appeal today December eighteenth, 2017 maintained the judgment of the Kano State High Court which indicted and condemned an Ex-Bank Manager, Samuel Owoleye to 19 years detainment in 2012. 

Owoleye, a Manager at the Union Bank Branch of Bank Road Kano who was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for offenses verging on Obtaining by False Pretense in opposition to segments 1(1) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offenses Act, 2006 and area 371 of the Penal code law, had argued not blameworthy and the indictment, through its advice A.T Habib, displayed ten witnesses and offered various shows keeping in mind the end goal to demonstrate the body of evidence against him amid his trial. 



On the twentieth day of June 2012, the Kano State High Court directed by Honorable Justice Dije Abdu Aboki found the blamed individual liable on the three count charge that were preferred against him by the commission and indicted howdy as needs be. 

The appealing party was accordingly condemned to 10 years detainment on count one, 7 years detainment on count 2 without alternative of fine. In any case, on tally three, he was condemned to 2 years detainment with choice of N300,000 fine While the sentence in count one and two were to run simultaneously, the appealing party was to serve back to back sentence in tally three. 

Owoyele's street to jail began when the commission got a request of from one Ashiru Munzali Gambo that the convict got the su N27,000,000 (Twenty Seven Million Naira) under a falsification that he had $185,000 (one hundred and eighty-five thousand United States Dollars) to pitch to him. 

Being disappointed with the judgment of the trial court, the convict drew nearer the Kaduna division of the Court of Appeal in an offer to set aside the judgment of the lower court on three grounds. 



In a judgment conveyed by Honorable Justice Bdlya Ibrahim every one of the issues raised by the appealing party were settled against the litigant a for the respondents. The interest was expelled for absence of legitimacy. 

The convict was promptly rearrested by officers of the Commission and passed on to Kan Zonal Office of the Commission.
