Customs Officer Arraigned For Trafficking 384kg Of Marijuana, Using Official Car


A Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) officer, Ugwoke Emmanuel, was on Thursday summoned by the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on drug trafficking charges before the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos. 

The court read a two-count charge of unlawful offering and transporting of 384 kilograms of cannabis, or marijuana. Mr. Emmanuel, a 25-year-old local of Bale-Oko in Badagry LGA, Lagos State, purportedly transported cannabis using an official NCS Toyota Hilux at the Gbaji Customs checkpoint along Seme-Badagry Road on May 14, 2017. 

The charged works at the Seme Border Post of the NCS. Emmanuel argued not guilty to the charge. The presiding judge, Justice Hadizat Rabiu-Shagari, while dismissing the
matter till September 28, 2017 for decision on the bail application, requested that the charged officer be remanded in jail authority.
