Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission ( NUC ), Prof. Adamu Abubakar Abdulrasheed on Monday said that reports indicating ratings of universities in Nigeria by NUC are fake.
Abdulrasheed said that NUC had not led no such exercise for a long time now .
The NUC boss expressed this while handling inquiries from journalists after 2018 budget defence session with the senate advisory group on Tertiary Education and TETFUND .
He said that NUC has quite recently constituted a powerful board of trustees headed by the past Executive Secretary, Professor Peter Okebukola to inform the Commission on the positioning with respect to Nigeria universities.
He noticed that a group of individuals would utilize online networking to distribute counterfeit 'ranking of Nigerian Universities.
He stated, "The NUC has constituted a powerful council to reposition Nigerian Universities.'
"They include prominent academics to help produce good, quality post graduate
studies"
"The Committee which is led by former Executive Secretary, Professor Peter Okebukola will survey our educational programs for Nigeria Universities.'
"NUC has not positioned any University for quite a while. The Committee will instruct us on positioning regarding Universities since we have not done that for quite a long while", he clarified.
He included that the NUC has drafted an archive that will diminish scholastic period for PhDs to at least three years.
He likewise uncovered that Universities in Nigeria were being situated to guarantee that PhD holders would be held after graduation, saying, other African Universities have communicated their availability to participate with Nigeria.
