Kano commissioner, 2 others charged over N5.9m land scam

A serving commissioner in the Kano State Ministry of Land and Physical Planning, Alhaji Faruk Bibi Faruk; and also the permanent secretary and director respectively in the ministry, Alhaji Mahmud Bello Bari and Ahmad Ibrahim were yesterday charged under the watchful eye of a state high court over a claimed N5.9 million land scam. 

The accused, summoned for three-count charge verging on conspiracy and criminal breach of trust, had at some point in April 2016 schemed among themselves to offer
out a plot of land to one Baba Sharu Dala in the entirety of N5m and issued him with a letter of concede in regard of the said property, as per the prosecution counsel, Barrister Rabi Ibrahim Waya.

Waya likewise told the court that the accused Commissioner, permanent secretary and director had at some point in May this year issued out two occupancy grants; C8 and C21 at Kuyan ta Inna, Kumbotso neighborhood government zone in invented names of Aisha Kabeer and Maryam Ado which were sold at N300, 000 each. 

At the point when the charge sheet was perused to the blamed, they pleaded not guity to all the three charges, and counsel to the initially accused individual, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Akinlolu Kehinde recorded two applications under the steady gaze of the court seeking bail for his client and access to the case journal and other significant documents. 

Counsels to the second and third charged people, Barrister Salisu Sule and Barrister Auwalu Abubakar upheld the two applications. 

In his ruling, the presiding judge, Justice Nasiru Saminu, dismissed the case till February 9, 2016 for decision on the application for the arrival of case journal and February 10, 2016 for knowing about the case.
